Before donating

Clean rugs in good condition are accepted by many shops, but some refuse them on hygiene grounds or ask for a fire safety label, and large rugs can be refused simply for space.

Vacuum both sides and check for wear, stains and smells. Measure and label the size — and ring ahead for anything bigger than a hearth rug.
