Before donating

Costume jewellery, watches, handbags and other accessories are widely accepted when clean and saleable. Some charities also value broken precious-metal jewellery. Earrings and other pierced jewellery may have extra hygiene restrictions, so ask first.

Prepare it like this

Keep small pieces and earring pairs together in a pouch or box. Clean them without making unsupported claims that they are sterile, and flag anything valuable so it can be assessed rather than priced as costume jewellery.

Absence from a charity's list doesn't mean they accept it — it just isn't singled out. Ask your local shop.
